The intent of Grimreign is to create an atmospheric dungeon crawler experience with the main
focus on exploration and loot gathering. Players take on the role of a semi-mad scientist named
Dr. Wiley with a love for inventing strange and sometimes useless tools. Due to unfortunate
events involving some pesky insects, Dr. Wiley needs to shrink himself to the size of a bug in
order to rid the infections from his daughter’s favorite tree before it dies!
Players will explore the tree from bottom to top, slowly working their way up until the insects
on each floor are eliminated. Using what the player has at their disposal, including a lantern to see at close distances inside the tree, players will have to be resourceful with how they
manage the onslaught of enemies, since higher floors contain harder and more varied insects to
fight. With the lantern, it still may be too dark to find the insects, so listening for their sounds
might come in handy. But how is the player going to survive so many enemies? Using the bugs
against themselves could do the trick! Collect bug parts that drop from certain insects to use as
weapons against the abundant hordes on each floor! Better parts mean better stats, so it’s best
to experiment with different types of weapons to find one that fits.
